HARDEST WORDS TO SAY
Sometimes the hardest things to say are also the most important. It doesn't matter how much it scares you to do so, it's finally time to be honest.

01. I DON'T LOVE YOU ANYMORE
Unfortunately, you can't keep lying to your partner/friend/family anymore. You just don't feel the same for them anymore.

The person who means so much to you has done something completely unforgivable and now it's time to make sure they know where they stand. You would kill them if you ever got the chance.
03. I LOVE YOU, BUT...
A bittersweet love confession. You know you love this person more than anything, but you're not sure you can give them what they need.

No matter how you feel about this person, you really can't trust them anymore.

You're going to sacrifice yourself, for the person you're talking with or for the good of all humanity. You want them to know the reasons and that there's no stopping you.

[ it's cool, he still knows this much about tavros' habits. his eyes stay closed, but he half-listens to the show and half picks his brain for some good memories, like when he stopped thinking this was stupid and started thinking it was stupidly cute, and things like that.

But the show ends, the hero wins (a big surprise, Tavros still claps like a ninny at the victory) and by the end of it he's ready to start gearing up for work. It's a bit of a trip and it's better to be there early than late. ]

[ Dave doesn't stick around to help out, not that he assumes Tavros needs (or wants) it—shower time. finally. that and a shave and changing into something that isn't his PJs and maybe actually picking his shit up off the floor. before all that though, he leaves a note for Tavros on the inside of the front door to find before he leaves.

[ It's a little later in the night when he finally replies. ]

[ There's a very long pause between the messages. Tavros has to think about it, pillowing his face in his hands and mulling the prospect over. ]

[ which should sound like trouble right away. dave, in the kitchen. ]

[ He's got to be reading that wrong. There's no way Dave is making a home cooked meal. ]

[ it was the only thing he could come up with on short notice. it was either that or waiting awhile but friday isn't that far away and he didn't want to give himself time to start getting complacent again. ]

[ he'll just. leave it at that and go be excited by himself for a minute or two. y'know, before he leaves for the grocery store and then returns to try and brave the kitchen. it's a pity he can't just throw a steak on the oven or something because that's easy, but he manages to make some semi-watery but relatively flavorful au gratin potatoes and veggie stew with the lentils just a little on the bizarrely crunchy side.............. with... okay there's kind of a weird film on the top of the pot but he can just. skim that off and there's no harm, no foul. maybe a little over-spiced but he'll just have to bust out the wine and that'll take any edge off the food, clearly.

he's not going to set it up all romantic or anything because he's not that much of a loser, but the table is set and he turns the dimmer switch up higher than usual and presto, date night.

or, uh.

whatever this is. really awkward semi on the mend passive-aggressive attempt at a make-up date dinner thing. ]

[ They still haven't talked about their problems yet, but whatever. When Tavros gets home he's tired and not really in the mood to deal with hardcore heart to hearts (which, probably wouldn't happen anyway, regardless of how much he'd very much like to work up the courage to sit Dave down and lay out some Very Real Possibilities if things don't change, but even then he's not sure he could keep to those threats and wouldn't know what to do if the human really did just decide it was too much work, and realistically he knows he's going to fold underneath Dave because he always does) so the idea of a homecooked meal is very appealing.

Even if when he comes in the door he's looking kind of dishevelled and tired, and those cat allergies have kicked him squarely in the teeth because he's sniffling.

He's got his coat off before he remembers that he's not just coming home to an empty apartment. ] I'm back.

[ the moment Dave hears the door open he cuts the tv off quick, powering off the dvd player and leaving himself a mental sticky note to pop out the fiduspawn dvd and put it back in Tavros' stash when he's not looking later—he's already gotten through a season and a half and was kind of losing track of time, between watching from the kitchen nook and puttering around in the kitchen, feeling like kind of an asshole in his shades and an apron.

he makes sure to ditch that, too, tossing it under the kitchen sink. no one can ever know about this. after that he just jams his hands in his pockets and strolls out, casual as can be. no doting pleased-to-see-you-how-was-work, but he reminds himself not to be aloof. behave yourself, Dave. you're only feeling weird because you haven't done this in basically ever, that's all. ]

[ The years have taught him that the correct thing to say would be I'm fine because no one wants to hear about the little girl who had to say goodbye to her cat, or the stray that had kittens, or the fact that even though it makes his nose run and his eyes burn, he spent an extra half hour with the older cats that were less likely to get homes because they deserve love too. Humans and other trolls may have been exceedingly confusing and liable to hurt him at the slightest provocation, but animals never did anything but love and hope to be loved in turn. He got them, which is why he could take one for the team and spend a few hours of his day making sure everything was okay for even the unwanted.

He manages not to prattle, somehow, instead giving a nod and rubbing the back of his hand under his nose. ]

Fine, I - uh, there were just, a lot of cats in today.

Oh, that sucks.

[ well not really, he guesses, he likes cats pretty alright but ah whatever they're not going to have a conversation about cats. ]

You should probably take some benadryl or something.

[ Guh. This isn't really how he wanted to come home but whatever to the medicine cabinet. ]

[ okay. good. meanwhile he can just kind of ninja the food onto the table. Tavros not watching him do it leaves an air of mysteriousness, like, wow, who was at home being domestic today? not Dave! surely not. ]

Uh, dinner's ready, by the way.

[ You're not convincing anyone, Dave. But Tavros looks sufficiently surprised that it's edible. ]

Oh, wow.

[ yeah he's basically awesome and not even trying to not look smug. ]

Au gratin potatoes and stew with a whole fuckton of vegetables. Just don't bother adding salt, it's already perfect.

You, made all of this? [ Your famous ass can still be romantic ]

Yep, from scratch. Except for the boxed potatoes.

[ do potatoes even come in a form that isn't pre-packaged ]

It looks really, good, wow.

[ Holy shit look at that. He scoots over to his usual place. ]

[ gosh, just embarrass him, why don't you. he takes his spot across the table and starts piling food on his plate as casual as possible.

also wine. because he can smell the over-seasoning as he's digging in and they'll probably need it. ]

Yeah. No dessert though, baking is where I draw the line. Not happening ever.

[ Okay significantly less good up close but Tavros is a troll and they probably eat grass or whatever so this is okay. ]

You sound, sort of like John when you say that. [ But piling the food on because who is going to say no to this after only eating cereal. ]

Only I don't have an aneurysm over fake personified diabetes maidens, I'm just not gay enough to get caught baking.

[ yes because baking is so gay. and yeah, he can definitely tell he over-salted it, but all in all even he is impressed with the fruits of his efforts. some burnt bits, and maybe a weird cold spot or two here and there, but it's better than a packet of Spree and six things of happy apple shit (his lunch). ]

There's nothing homosexual about, uhh, baking. [ No matter how long he's been here the stupid earth terminology trips him up. ] ... is there?

There definitely is. Keep that info in mind, dude, it'll come in handy next time someone asks if you're down for whipping up some cookies.
