Unfortunately, you can't keep lying to your partner/friend/family anymore. You just don't feel the same for them anymore.

The person who means so much to you has done something completely unforgivable and now it's time to make sure they know where they stand. You would kill them if you ever got the chance.
03. I LOVE YOU, BUT...
A bittersweet love confession. You know you love this person more than anything, but you're not sure you can give them what they need.

No matter how you feel about this person, you really can't trust them anymore.

It feels good. If someone else is having it and we're not we get pissed off. That about covers it.

[ have a nice long pause while he hovers over his wine glass. this is starting to head toward dangerous territory. ]

[ It's like waking up from a day dream only to find you're in a minefield. Tavros swallows and runs his finger over the circle of his glass. ]

Nevermind. [ He can think of a few reasons. ]

[ yeah, he's done eating. already full, but this kind of strangled the rest of his appetite. ]

[ He probably shouldn't have opened his mouth. That just destroyed any appetite he had left. Instead, he just takes a bigger gulp of wine. ]

[ no, god damn it. he tried so hard, he can't let this get weird and awful. he just sort of flounders over his glass and then sets it down, spreading his fingers over the table top. ]

So, uh, I think Food Lion's still open. I could go pick up a cake or something and we can jam a candle in it and sing happy birthday to the first time we did anything together in forever, just for irony's sake. Could be fun.

[ What he wants to do is make Dave feel the neglect he's felt. Just - shut him down, go off, he's used to being lonely but obviously Dave isn't. ]

Okay. [ But he's tired of being lonely and maybe a Dave who tries is a Dave who can change. ]

[ well shit, okay, awesome. he stands and sticks his hands in his pockets, slouching and looking cool so it doesn't look like he just lost himself to being hopeful for a second. ]

Uh. Vanilla, is, my vote. [ He taps his thumb against his lips, leaning back a little and looking up at the ceiling. ]

[ picking up his keys and heading for the door: possibly the most familiar-feeling thing he's done in ages. ]

[ he'd have offered to bring Tavros along if it weren't something that'd take forever, and the store's only going to be open for half an hour and it takes fifteen minutes to get there—

but only five minutes for him to nab the cake (and a bag of funyuns, and oh yeah, orange soda too). and then five more to loiter around and chat up the bag girl, hey, haven't seen you in awhile, how you doing? oh i'm good, i'm always good. oh, this? it's date night.

oh yeah.

then he comes back, letting the sound of the door opening and the bags rustling announce himself rather than calling out. ]

[ Look at all the clean dishes now set up on the table. He's... leaving the clean ones on the counter because the cupboards are really high and he doesn't want to smash them again. He just. Has to not knock that tower off by turning too suddenly.

Its just.. Weird. Really, really weird. Having Dave home, much less seeing him actually - try. Where do they even start to go from here? ]

[ hey, man, something Tavros said apparently hit home. he doesn't know the first thing about actually getting down to the serious business, but whenever he got a broad mad at him or something, dinner and some cuddles is pretty much all it took to calm them down, and he didn't even like them like he usually likes Tavros. maybe it's just the concept that he could lose the kid if he doesn't shape up, or maybe it's that he wants to prove he's not that bad to make himself feel better, or fuck, maybe he's just bored on his days off. he really has no idea.

but it's worth it when he walks into the kitchen and they're just being domestic as fuck and it looks and feels weird but he still kinda sorta half-smiles and whips the spoils out of the grocery bags and places them on the table for assessment and then goes to tackle that tower of dishes before they all fall down, and the whole time he doesn't really say anything but it's not that angry ignoring each other and wanting to rip each other's throats out silence so he's okay with it. ]
